We all do stupid things at some point of our life, especially when we are young. Unfortunately, these days, kids are putting their stupidity online on Facebook pages. And there are things that happened that are reported incorrectly and then later corrected in the media. As time went by, it became increasingly unlikely that the incorrect information would come to light unless someone went to a lot of trouble. Now, a Google search can uncover old information in seconds on just about anyone. Now all of us are vulnerable to having past mistakes and indiscretions pop up to cause us trouble.
Spain has decided to take action on this problem. The Spanish Data Protection Agency has issued an order to Google to remove links to material on 90 people who petitioned to have themselves erased from Google searches. This is the first case in the world where a search engine has been ordered by a government to “forget” people. Google has been fighting the order through the courts.
